Shropshire County Council was right to dismiss a residential social workerafter she appeared in a pornographic magazine, an employment tribunal foundlast week. Social worker Fleur Maidment was working in a children’s home when nudepictures of her appeared in Escort. She was recognised by children in the home after they saw the pictures andwas dismissed by the council last October. Maidment claimed that her boyfriend had sent in the photographs without herknowledge or consent. John Hodges, Shropshire County Council’s solicitor, said, “We arerequired to provide a higher standard of parenting than we might expect fromnatural parents and we can only do so via our policies and procedures and byour employees setting the highest standards of conduct and being positive rolemodels.” He added that her position had become untenable.
