USU Men’s Basketball Looks To Continue Winning Streak Against Colorado State

first_img Tags: USU Basketball Written by FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailLOGAN, Utah-Tuesday and Thursday, Utah State men’s basketball (11-3, 8-0 in Mountain West Conference play) hosts Colorado State (10-2, 7-1 in Mountain West play) at the Spectrum.The Aggies are undefeated in Mountain West play for the first time in school history and are 35-9 (.795) in the Mountain West under head coach Craig Smith (2018-present) who is 65-18 (.783) at Utah State and 144-73 (.664) as a Division I men’s basketball coach  including his time at South Dakota (2014-2018).In Smith’s tenure, the Aggies are also a Mountain-West best 20-2 (.909) at home.The Aggies’ current 10-game winning streak is the eighth longest in the nation.Utah State scores 75.3 points per game, ranking them 109th nationally in scoring offense. Defensively, the Aggies surrender 59.3 points per game, ranking Utah State 8th nationally in scoring defense.Portuguese national, junior center Neemias Queta is the reigning Mountain West player of the week. Furthermore, he is the only player in Division I men’s basketball to lead his squad in scoring (12.2 points per game), rebounding (9.4 boards per contest ), blocked shots (40), assists (43) and steals (19).Other Aggies to score in double figures on-average include redshirt junior guard Marco Anthony (11.5 points, 5.2 rebounds per game) and junior forward Justin Bean (10.5 points, 7.5 rebounds per game).Utah State also ranks fifth nationally in rebounding margin per game (+11). The Aggies out-rebound opponents 41.5-29.9 on-average.Colorado State scores 75.8 points per game, ranking the Rams 105th nationally in scoring offense.Defensively, Colorado State surrenders 63.8 points per game, ranking the Rams 45th nationally in scoring defense.Sophomore guard/forward David Roddy leads the Rams in scoring (15.8 points per game), rebounding (9.3 board per contest) and blocked shots (10).Also scoring in double figures on-average for Colorado State are sophomore guard Isaiah Stevens (15.4 points per game, a team-best 75 assists) and junior guard Kendle Moore (11.1 points per game, a team-best 18 steals).Colorado State is coached by Niko Medved who is 42-34 (.553) in his third season at Fort Collins. Medved is 121-122 (.498) as a Division I head coach having also coached at Furman (2013-2017) and Drake (2017-18).The Aggies lead the Rams 64-39 all-time and 19-8 at Logan.
