JVP Parliamentarian Bimal Ratnayake said that the Auditor General comes under the direct purview of Parliament and no attempt should be made to curtail his role. (Colombo Gazette) Karunanayake said he had a right to seek the report and questioned the move by the Auditor General to speak to the media on the matter.The Finance Minister urged Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to look into the issue and take appropriate action. Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake today accused the Auditor General of crossing the line.He told Parliament the Auditor General had shared information with Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Parliamentarian Bimal Ratnayake and the public which was sough by the Ministry, without consulting the Ministry. “He has gone beyond his mandate,” the Finance Minister added. A weekend newspaper had reported that the Auditor General had accused the Finance Minister of being “impatient and unethical” in seeking from him a report on the accounts of the Public Debt Department of the Central Bank on bond issues for eight years.
